In the report "The Role of Economic Growth Of Indonesia Internet" which was released by Deloitte Access Economics represents Google's Asia-Pacific, describes the contribution of the Internet on the Indonesian economy at 1.6 percent, or about Rp 116 trillion or the equivalent of 13 billion U.S. dollars of the total Gross Domestic Product (GDP ) Indonesia in 2011.

In the next five years, the contribution of the Internet will increase three times faster than economic growth in Indonesia and is expected to reach 2.5 percent of total gross domestic product (GDP) to 2016 or to reach Rp 324 trillion.

Deloitte Access Economics director Ric Simes stated growth of the Internet is actually outpace other industries such as textiles and leather products processed.

By using the Internet, business people or individuals who do business on the Internet can improve his business revenue. Benefits of the Internet is felt directly by the business in Indonesia, is as follows.

     Able to work on local market opportunities (perceived by 78 per cent of respondents)
     Promotional costs are cheap (70 percent)
     Low-cost distribution system (65 percent)
     Getting a new market in Indonesia (60 percent)
     Can access a wider market (15 percent)

"Contribution of the Internet on the Indonesian economy is a positive number. The value will be impacted to other economic sectors that will also improve Indonesia's GDP," said Ric in Jakarta, Tuesday (12/13/2011).

With the power of the Internet, spending in cyberspace (e-commerce) is expected to reach Rp 2 trillion or the equivalent of 230 million U.S. dollars during 2010 or less than 0.1 percent of gross domestic product (GDP).

This survey by Deloitte Access Economics on 200 small and medium entrepreneurs (SMEs) in several cities in Indonesia.
